External Links On Pages Gadget Point To Blog Home Page

Today, we're getting a few reports in Blogger Help Forum: Something Is Broken, from blog owners who setup blog clusters, with the cluster members linked using tabs in the Pages gadget - who suddenly found their clusters unlinked.
The different page tabs on my blog redirect to my same blog!

You can see the problem, in my demonstration blog. The tab marked "Indra" should redirect to "officialcommunities.blogspot.com" - instead, it redirects to the home page of that same blog "nitecruzrtestnew.blogspot.com".

When I look at the Pages editor, I see New Page › Web Address. When you look at my blog, you see
We have almost a dozen forum discussions, all reporting this same problem. We now have a rollup discussion, in Blogger Help Forum: Something Is Broken, where details are requested.
  • What is the URL of the blog?
  • Taking any non working link in your Pages gadget as an example, what is the label, and the correct link target?
  • Using Pages editor, what target do you see, for that link?
  • Are you using Classic GUI Pages editor, or New GUI Pages editor?
  • When did you first observe this problem?
  • When did you, previously, not notice this problem?
  • What did you change, between #4 and #5?
  • What browser do you use, when using Pages editor?

I was able to contact Blogger Support, so they are aware of the problem, and are working on it.

(Update 2011/12/04): We are receiving reports that the problem has been resolved. Thanks to the Blogger Engineers who worked long hours to fix this one.

Hi, I noted a 4 December post on your blog reports the issue with external links has been resolved - I've experienced the same issue twice since then. Can you offer any advice on a permanent fix? The two blogs I'm cross-linking between are:

http://the-nicolls.blogspot.com/

http://seasprint-ships-log.blogspot.com/

The Ship's Log tab in Nicolls@Sea should link to the log. Home, Trip Map and About Seasprint tabs (currently removed) should link to the three Nicolls@Sea pages.

I've put a clumsy workaround in but am v. keen to fix it. Many thanks!

Any word on when this will be fixed? It worked a few days ago, and now it's not linking properly again. :(

It's baaaack! (12-21-11) Started affecting one link yesterday, today it's all of them. Think you could notify whomever you did last time?

We just noticed it today.

The page on http://www.thewildgeeseblog.blogspot.com that links to our other blogger blog http://www.thewildgeesegenealogy.blogspot.com is just pointing to it's home page And vice/versa. The page that links to our WEBSITE DOES work. It used to work perfectly

As of today, the problem is still present on my blog, I want to redirect to http://hallic7.blogspot.com/ and the link takes visitors to http://hallic7-eng.blogspot.com/

This is now occurring again now.
Is there anything we as users can put in place to sort it rather than waiting for the blogger team to sort it out?
Its a fairly important section of my blog as it allows me to link together my various work.

Hatter,

You can use an HTML equivalent of the tabs bar, if you wish.

I think the fastest and easiest way is to use the Link List gadget instead of the Pages Gadget.
Leave your pages intact, add the Link List gadget and add the links to your pages in the order you prefer. In Layout, move the Link List gadget beneath your Pages Gadget. Check the page to see if it has worked correctly and is styled the same as your Pages gadget. Go back to layout and remove the Pages Gadget.

Hope this helps.
I've had to do this on many of my sites and I haven't had a problem since!

Thank you Chuck Croll. I was waiting around for Blogger to fix the problem with the pages tab, but this is a much better solution.

This same thing is happening to my blogs. This is horrible. If it was fixed then broke again, I guess that's a good thing because at least they'll TRY to fix it. But this needs to be fixed. BTW I think this is ONLY happening with DYNAMIC VIEWS. Why on earth doesn't BLOGGER mention this problem on Twitter!!!!????!!!!

James,

Actually, we've seen this problem both in dynamic and non dynamic templates. The problem is apparently in the code behind the Pages gadget - not in the template itself.

What's The URL Of My Blog?

We see the plea for help, periodically I need the URL of my blog, so I can give it to my friends. Help! Who's buried in Grant's Tomb, after all? No Chuck, be polite. OK, OK. The title of this blog is "The Real Blogger Status", and the title of this post is "What's The URL Of My Blog?".

Add A Custom Redirect, If You Change A Post URL

When you rename a blog, the most that you can do, to keep the old URL useful, is to setup a stub post , with a clickable link to the new URL. Yo! The blog is now at xxxxxxx.blogspot.com!! Blogger forbids gateway blogs, and similar blog to blog redirections . When you rename a post, you can setup a custom redirect - and automatically redirect your readers to the post, under its new URL. You should take advantage of this option, if you change a post URL.

Adding A Link To Your Blog Post

Occasionally, you see a very odd, cryptic complaint I just added a link in my blog, but the link vanished! No, it wasn't your imagination.
