Blog Owners, Using Older Versions Of Internet Explorer, Unable To Upload Photos

We have a small but vocal group of blog owners, in Blogger Help Forum: Get Help with an Issue , who report that they are unable to use Post Editor, to upload photos. When trying, they get an error Do you want to open or save resumable (1.61kb) from www.blogger.com? Right now, it appears that the problem is common to older versions of Internet Explorer.

Windows XP / IE V8 Is "Good Enough" - But For How Long?

This month, we've seen more than a few reports, in Blogger Help Forum: Something Is Broken , about various Blogger dashboard problems. Both the Overview and Post Editor dashboard sections seem vulnerable to problems - typically described as bX code terminations . Many of the people reporting problems admit that they are using Internet Explorer V8. For some blog owners, the choice of staying with IE V8 is not an option. Get everyone to use Chrome, and don't support those using IE V8. Win XP works fine. Everyone can't get new computers or operating systems, every time some new software comes out! Unfortunately, Windows XP was sunsetted, by Microsoft, some time ago - and IE V8 is the last version of that browser that will run, on Windows XP. Windows XP and IE V8 may be "good enough" for now - but time is running out, on both.

Post Editor Problems With Blog Owners Using Internet Explorer V8

We've been seeing a steady stream of problems being reported in Blogger Help Forum: Something Is Broken , from blog owners unable to use post editor. The symptoms are varied, in detail. Some can't get the cursor active, in the window. Others can't use the Preview option. Still others can't Publish. The primary symptom, seen by many, involves yet another mysterious bX code . In many cases, this problem has been forecast, for some time - and the blog owners should blame only themselves. Many of these blog owners are using - or trying to use - Internet Explorer V8, to maintain their blogs.

Internet Explorer V8 / V9 And The New Blogger GUI

Back when Internet Explorer V8 was first released by Microsoft, and Blogger had yet to update their code to allow for its peccadilloes, some Blogger blog owners used the Internet Explorer "Compatibility View" switch , to make their browsers work with Blogger (when they were using the Blogger "Classic" GUI). We've recently been seeing an increasing number of people in Blogger Help Forum: Something Is Broken , using Internet Explorer, who report problems with The New GUI .

Some Blog Owners Report A Scrolling Stats Display

For most blog owners, the formatting of the Stats display is a model of efficiency. For each display (Overview, Posts, Traffic Sources, Audience), when looking left to right, we see a display that's pretty tightly limited to 75% screen width, when the display size is adjusted to 100% screen height. That's maybe 10% wider than the post editor display, with both post editor and Stats leaving the well known white space on the right. Legendarily - and I can't think specifically where I could quote this trivia, the Blogger wizard displays, such as Post Editor, Settings, and Stats, are limited this way so blog owners won't be forced to size their browser windows to 100% of screen width. See how neatly the horizontal width of the Post Editor display is sized? And here's the Stats display, with similar "white space". Oddly, a few blog owners have been reporting, recently, that they are being forced to scroll left to right, to see the entire Stats display...

Internet Explorer and "Operation Aborted" - July 2009

The ongoing problem with Internet Explorer issuing "Operation Aborted", when loading various blogs, diminished in intensity recently. It has not, however, completely vanished. You may see the latest reports of this problem, in a consolidated feed . If you are experiencing this symptom - either in a blog which you control, or a blog which someone else controls - help us to help you. Provide your observations, for everybody. What browser version (the complete version number of format "n.n.nnnn.nn" may be significant here) are you using? What operating system (again, name and version, please) are you using? In what blogs(s) have you observed the problem? Is that your blog(s), and if so, did you see an improvement by removing the Follower / Friend Connect gadgets? By changing the comment form option? By removing any other gadgets? Have you made any separate effort to diagnose your problem ? Your report here, of what you are seeing or have seen, may be invaluable. ...

Internet Explorer and "Operation Aborted" - June 2009

Bloggers have been reporting the monolithic error " Operation Aborted " for many months, at a slow but steady rate. Last month, the problem was reported in much greater intensity . Previously, the cause of the problem, when known, was third party scripts that didn't operate properly inside an HTML / JavaScript shell . One instance, not the sole cause but the one most observed, was bad code in the SiteMeter visitor counter, later solved by SiteMeter. Last month, many bloggers found that removing the Blogger Followers / Google Friend Connect gadgets, and changing the comment form from "Embedded below post" to "Full page" or "Popup", provided relief to their affected blogs. Two weeks after the latest problem was reported, though, this problem continues. And some bloggers are recently reporting that their blogs have this problem, and it's not apparently solved by removing the Blogger Followers / Google Friend Connect gadgets, or by changi...

Internet Explorer and "Operation Aborted" - May 2009

The monolithic "Operation Aborted" error , seen with blogs being viewed through Internet Explorer, has been with us for many months. Last week, the problem took a much more serious turn, and affected many blogs - such as many of the blogs in Nitecruzr Dot Net . After several days, and some intense work by Blogger engineers, the problem seems to have diminished significantly - yet it continues to be reported sporadically in the forums. As of yesterday 5/27, Nitecruzr Dot Net is still affected. Right now, it appears to be seen, primarily, by bloggers using Internet Explorer V8. Removal of the Following and Friend Connect gadgets, where present in a blog owned by a viewer of the problem, helps eliminate the symptom many, but not all, of the times seen. Some bloggers have stated that changing from the inline comment form, to a popup or separate form, has helped eliminate their version of the problem. Presumably, the problem, if this is going to be effective, will be seen onl...

Internet Explorer Version 8 Is Out

Blogger, being a web based platform, is very sensitive to changes and problems which originate in the browser - both your browser (as you produce your blog), and your readers browser (as he / she reads your blog). With any major change in any popular browser, comes yet another need for Blogger to recertify and update their code base. This month, Microsoft released Internet Explorer Version 8 . Like each newly released version of Internet Explorer, it's going to create new needs for the Blogger crew to update their code. And it will create additional need for us to test more thoroughly - both a general test of our blog right now, and additional testing of any future changes - with IE V8, as well as with previous versions. And when you find a problem, diagnose it properly . >> Top
