Heads Up, Bloggers! Yesterday Was Patch Tuesday!

In the jungle, when the big ape speaks, everybody listens. In the computer jungle, Microsoft is the big ape. Yesterday, the big ape burped.

Yesterday was the second Tuesday of the month, aka "Patch Tuesday". And Microsoft issued a patch array that was described by one Microsoft MVP as "brutal".

If you (or your readers) suddenly start seeing problems using Blogger, or accessing blogs, you might want to carefully consider what changes were recently made to your computer (your readers computers). It's possible that patches being made available this week, in many cases automatically (and without concern by the computer owner), may cause interesting problems.

All problems are not caused by Blogger. Really.

Are there really that many people still allowing Microsoft to download patches to their computers automatically? Really? That's scary!!

Just out of interest, I tried editing and viewing my blog on Blogger, on two separate operating systems and through three separate browsers. I'm impressed to say the very least!. Given the servers that these guys must be running, (third parties and all!) to cope with so many users with so many different computer specs, they do an amazing job!

Some MS Security helpers and experts call them "sheep", or "sheeple", and yes, there are a lot of "sheeple" out there. People who simply want to use their computer, and don't care about what's on it. And give Microsoft the benefit of the doubt.

Most blogs, properly maintained, wil work fine on any browser / operating system. What brings the most challenges are the security components installed by the owners. Or the changes installed by Microsoft.

Add A Custom Redirect, If You Change A Post URL

When you rename a blog, the most that you can do, to keep the old URL useful, is to setup a stub post , with a clickable link to the new URL. Yo! The blog is now at xxxxxxx.blogspot.com!! Blogger forbids gateway blogs, and similar blog to blog redirections . When you rename a post, you can setup a custom redirect - and automatically redirect your readers to the post, under its new URL. You should take advantage of this option, if you change a post URL.

What's The URL Of My Blog?

We see the plea for help, periodically I need the URL of my blog, so I can give it to my friends. Help! Who's buried in Grant's Tomb, after all? No Chuck, be polite. OK, OK. The title of this blog is "The Real Blogger Status", and the title of this post is "What's The URL Of My Blog?".

Blogger Magic - Adding Label Search URLs

One of the simplest ways to make a blog useful is to add label searches. Adding label searches, in page / post text, is not easy - unless you know how to build the URLs. Here's a label search from this blog. http://blogging.nitecruzr.net/search/label/Blogger%20Magic All that I want, when using that label search, is to add another reference to my "Blogger Magic" post series. " Blogger Magic " emphasises how easy it is, to use Blogger. How easy is it, to remember that syntax - to add a label link? Maybe, a " Blogger Magic " reference, in this post?
