How You Login To Following Affects Your Ability To Block Followers

Following, now using Google Friend Connect, gives its members several options - and some options may cause confusion. You can login to Following using any account, hosted on any of six different Internet services, and Follow using any of seven different Following profiles. And the account used for logging in to Following can differ, at your discretion, from the Blogger account that you are using, at any time, to maintain your Blogger blog.

Some bloggers don't see the possible combinations, from the above details, and can't figure out why they have a problem.
I am logged in to Following, using my Google account. Where is my "Block this user" link?
That question overlooks the (to me) obvious detail that you cannot block a Follower for any blog, unless you are logged in using a proper Blogger / Google account - in this case, an account that has administrative control of that blog.

If you cannot identify yourself as an administrator of a blog, you have no business blocking Followers for that blog - as with making any blog sensitive changes, these are tasks restricted to blog administrators. With few exceptions, you are not going to make changes to my blog, because you are not an administrator for my blog. Similarly, you have to identify yourself using an administrative account for your blog, if you want to make changes to your blog - including blocking users from Following your blog.

The next time you are examining Followers for your blog, you see a dodgy Follower, and you can't find the "Block this user" link to block that Follower, check how you are logged in to Blogger - and how you are logged in to Following. Similar to the occasional confusion about not finding a Followed blog in the Reading List, both questions are relevant, to your situation.

Hi there,

I know this isn't exactly responding to the post above, but you seem to know a bit about blogger that many of us don't. I'm trying to find out why followers are not showing up on my actual blog page. My dashboard shows I have 10 followers, but when you actually look at the blog, there is nothing under the followers tab, just blank space, and I have no way to see who the followers are. Any ideas? And I'm still trying to find out where we can get official responses from blogger administrators...any idea?

Thanks!

Sonia,

You get answers from posting in Blogger Help Forum: Something Is Broken, and providing details about the problem, there.

Embedded Comments And Main Page View

The option to display comments, embedded below the post, was made a blog option relatively recently. This was a long requested feature - and many bloggers added it to their blogs, as soon as the option was presented to us. Some blog owners like this feature so much, that they request it to be visible when the blog is opened, in main page view. I would like all comments, and the comment form, to be shown underneath the relevant post, automatically, for everyone to read without clicking on the number of comments link. And this is not how embedded comments work.

What's The URL Of My Blog?

We see the plea for help, periodically I need the URL of my blog, so I can give it to my friends. Help! Who's buried in Grant's Tomb, after all? No Chuck, be polite. OK, OK. The title of this blog is "The Real Blogger Status", and the title of this post is "What's The URL Of My Blog?".

With Following, Anonymous Followers Can't Be Blocked

As people become used to Blogger Following as just another tool to connect people, they start to think about the implications . And we see questions like How do I block someone who's been following my blog secretly? I couldn't see her in my Followers list (hence I couldn't use the "Block this user" link), but I have looked at her profile and could see that she's Following my blog. Following, when you look at the bottom line, is no more than a feed subscription and an icon (possibly) displayed on your blog, and linking back to the profile of the Follower in question. If someone Follows your blog anonymously, all that they get is a subscription to the blog feed. If you publish a feed from your blog, and if the feed is open to anybody (which, right now, is the case ), then it's open to everybody. If someone wants to use Following to subscribe to the feed, you can't stop this. You can't block it before, or after, the fact. You can't Block w
