Custom Domain Problems - October 2009

During the past week (7 to 10 days), we have seen several reports / day, in Blogger Help Forum, from bloggers who state
My domain name (purchased through Google Apps) is still not available, over two days after purchasing. It's not just a DNS propagation issue, the message in the Blogger Settings | Publishing tab reads
The DNS record for your domain is not set up correctly yet. If you have just purchased this domain the setup process may take up to a day.
Now, we've seen these reports before; generally 1 or 2 / week is normal. Not 2 or 3 / day.

And when we Dig the domain, we see evidence of a new problem.

This is not a domain that's improperly setup, this is a domain that was not setup, at all.

If your domain is one involved in this problem, can you please provide details, either here (below), or in your Blogger Help Forum thread. The more precise and complete your details, the more easily Blogger can help you.
  • What is the domain URL?
  • When (time, date, time zone) did you purchase the domain?
  • Did you use "Buy A Domain", or Google Apps?
  • Did you get a purchase receipt?
  • Did you get a confirming email from Google Apps?
  • Was your credit account charged?
  • Which registrar did you use (eNom / GoDaddy, and did you choose?)?

(Update 10/16 13:00): We are seeing a sign that this problem is being resolved.
I see that Google finally got things working for me. My domain www.jworktv.com is now working. I just rec'd a email out of nowhere that said thanks for your purchase of the domain, and so I went and checked it, and sure enough-it is showing up online.

(Update 2009/10/15 16:00): Blogger Support is now aware of the problem.
Thanks for the reports on this; we'll investigate what is going on from the Apps side and report back here with an update.

Same problem as the above, I purchased a domain and had been using. the domain name is www.projectpoint5.com.

Please look into this and let me know why my blog stops working. I can log on to my blog, but when I click View Blog, it shows that it does not exist.

Please rectify this, thanks
I am having the same problem. My URL is
scentsualeyepillows.com
The order was placed on October 13.
Order date: Oct 13, 2009 11:03 PM PDT
Google order number: 176393430968602.
My credit card was charged $10.00 and I got a confirmation email.
I used "buy a domain" by going to the settings in my dashboard and then proceeding with instructions to buy a custom domain.
The email confirmation says that the domain has been registered with godaddy and was effective Oct. 13th. But, it's not working.

Why is domain www.projectpoint5.com not working?
Any idea when the custom domain problem might be fixed? I have posted above. My current URL is scentsualeyepillows.blogspot.com and I purchased scentsualeyepillows.com as detailed above.

Thanks

I'm wondering if you can help me with my domain problem.. i'm getting a 404 not found error today after renewing my domain from godaddy yesterday. I didn't mess with the DNS controls when i renewed it.. Hope you can help!

Shemah,

I'll try to help. I can do that best, when you post your query in Blogger Help Forum: Something Is Broken. Peer support in an online forum is the way to go.

I am not sure where to post my concern:
I have been doing business for years with my domain: www.insyncwithself.com
Recently, I noticed someone is using my domain name with blogspot attached: www.insyncwithself.blogspot.com
This does not seem ethical to me and I would think there is some sort of screening before someone can just take a domain. Please advise. Thank you, Vicki

Vicki,

If "insyncwithself.blogspot.com" was available, and they took it, why would this not be ethical?

Any available "blogspot.com" subdomain, if not in use, is equally available to anybody. No, there's no screening. You see it, you take it, it's yours for eternity.

What's The URL Of My Blog?

We see the plea for help, periodically I need the URL of my blog, so I can give it to my friends. Help! Who's buried in Grant's Tomb, after all? No Chuck, be polite. OK, OK. The title of this blog is "The Real Blogger Status", and the title of this post is "What's The URL Of My Blog?".

Add A Custom Redirect, If You Change A Post URL

When you rename a blog, the most that you can do, to keep the old URL useful, is to setup a stub post , with a clickable link to the new URL. Yo! The blog is now at xxxxxxx.blogspot.com!! Blogger forbids gateway blogs, and similar blog to blog redirections . When you rename a post, you can setup a custom redirect - and automatically redirect your readers to the post, under its new URL. You should take advantage of this option, if you change a post URL.

Adding A Link To Your Blog Post

Occasionally, you see a very odd, cryptic complaint I just added a link in my blog, but the link vanished! No, it wasn't your imagination.
