SpellCheck

... does not work.

Several times / day, recently, we see the anxious query
I write essays and spell check is not working...What is up with that and when will it be fixed?

We know that it isn't working - Blogger has even stated so
The "Check Spelling" button in the Blogger post editor is currently non-functional.

If Blogger fixes it, maybe they will let us know. You can watch the Known Issues for Blogger feed (in the sidebar, to the right), or you can subscribe to a feed here. One day, you may see an update.

Of course, if you used Firefox, you wouldn't bother with this spellchecker. The Mozilla spellchecker is more robust, and applies to all web sites. And you can add your own words to the dictionary.

But, if you insist on using Internet Explorer, you'll have to wait for Blogger to fix their product. Or maybe find another third party product. If you use a word processing program, like Microsoft Word (which does have spell and grammar checking), be aware of the possible problems.

>> (Update 2/22): We see an update, not yet in Known Issues though.

OR: Write your work up in the word processor of your choice, then cut-and-paste it into blogger. Hardly rocket science, really.

Actually, there are known problems with using MS Word to compose posts.

So how about an email notice to bloggers that spell checker is down? 'Course some people might think that was spam, but I would have appreciated hearing about it.

Charles,

Blogger (not Google just Blogger) faces 2 - 3 dozen individual issues daily. Multiply that times number of blogger readers. How much email do you think the Google system can send out? And how do they know everybody's email address.

No, pray that they do NOT know everybody's address.

LOL.

Subscribe to the feeds, Charles, like everybody else. Blogger Status, Known Issues For Blogger, and yes Real Blogger Status all have Atom / RSS feeds.

I saw your note about newsfeeds, followed the link, installed sage, subscribed to blogger status and it seems to work. I think I may be the only person I know who has tried this, or else it everybody else has been using it for so long that they no longer even mention it. I am not sure I like it, but I guess I can give it a try.

What's The URL Of My Blog?

We see the plea for help, periodically I need the URL of my blog, so I can give it to my friends. Help! Who's buried in Grant's Tomb, after all? No Chuck, be polite. OK, OK. The title of this blog is "The Real Blogger Status", and the title of this post is "What's The URL Of My Blog?".

Add A Custom Redirect, If You Change A Post URL

When you rename a blog, the most that you can do, to keep the old URL useful, is to setup a stub post , with a clickable link to the new URL. Yo! The blog is now at xxxxxxx.blogspot.com!! Blogger forbids gateway blogs, and similar blog to blog redirections . When you rename a post, you can setup a custom redirect - and automatically redirect your readers to the post, under its new URL. You should take advantage of this option, if you change a post URL.

Adding A Link To Your Blog Post

Occasionally, you see a very odd, cryptic complaint I just added a link in my blog, but the link vanished! No, it wasn't your imagination.
