Blogger Blogs Redirecting To "blogrolling.com"

This week, we're seeing a new small flood of complaints about redirecting blogs, in Blogger Help Forum: Something Is Broken.
When I try to view my blog, I am being redirected to http://rpc.blogrolling.com!
Many blog owners have forgotten the past, and the accessories they installed on their blogs, long ago. Sometimes - as now - the past can return, to haunt you.

Several years ago, Blogger added the very popular BlogList gadget, that lets us showcase the latest updates from our friends blogs, on our blogs. Before then, bloglists were maintained by the various blog owners, using a variety of accessories. One very popular blog listing accessory was provided by BlogRolling, a free third party service.

After Blogger added the BlogList as a built-in Blogger accessory, BlogRolling lost its customer base. Almost a year ago, BlogRolling stopped serving bloglist updates. Recently, the "blogrolling.com" domain, as with many unneeded domains, went out of service.

A Who.Is log shows the sad details.
REGISTRY WHOIS FOR BLOGROLLING.COM

Registrar: TUCOWS.COM CO.
Whois Server: whois.tucows.com
Referral URL: http://domainhelp.opensrs.net
Status: clientDeleteProhibited, clientTransferProhibited, clientUpdateProhibited

Expiration Date: 2012-01-03
Creation Date: 2002-01-03
Last Update Date: 2011-08-31

Name Servers:
    parking1.mdnsservice.com
    parking2.mdnsservice.com

Now, people are seeing their blogs, which contain HTML gadgets that use code provided by BlogRolling, redirected to a "parked page" of advertising.

The bottom line here is that there's no hijacking, just code - from a dead service - that was left behind, on a few Blogger blogs. Resolving the problem generally won't be too complicated - just identify and remove the broken gadgets, that redirect to "blogrolling.com".

I can't open my blog to get to the codes to delete anything. How do I get my blog to open up at all...it is being redirected every time????

Vickie,

Go into your blog via blogger, not the blog itself. If you log in there, you won't get redirected.

Is there a list of widgets that are effected? I do not have the blogrolling widget but am having the same problem.

Thanks. I was able to get to it via blogger.com. I deleted an old blogroll from 2008-2009 and that fixed the problem. Thanks for the suggestions. I appreciate all the help and I learned something new while at it :)

God's Blessings

Adding A Link To Your Blog Post

Occasionally, you see a very odd, cryptic complaint I just added a link in my blog, but the link vanished! No, it wasn't your imagination.

Embedded Comments And Main Page View

The option to display comments, embedded below the post, was made a blog option relatively recently. This was a long requested feature - and many bloggers added it to their blogs, as soon as the option was presented to us. Some blog owners like this feature so much, that they request it to be visible when the blog is opened, in main page view. I would like all comments, and the comment form, to be shown underneath the relevant post, automatically, for everyone to read without clicking on the number of comments link. And this is not how embedded comments work.

What's The URL Of My Blog?

We see the plea for help, periodically I need the URL of my blog, so I can give it to my friends. Help! Who's buried in Grant's Tomb, after all? No Chuck, be polite. OK, OK. The title of this blog is "The Real Blogger Status", and the title of this post is "What's The URL Of My Blog?".
