Linking Your Blog To Google+, Using Mail-to-Blogger

As Google+ increases in public visibility, we're seeing suggestions how to integrate it into our lives. You can, for instance, publish directly to your blog, using a Google+ stream, and Mail-to-Blogger.

  1. Setup a new Blogger account, make that account a blog administrator, and activate Mail-to-Blogger for that account. If you're daring, use your existing Blogger account.
  2. Setup a new Google+ Circle.
  3. Add a single user to your new Google+ Circle, using the email address of your Mail-to-Blogger account.
  4. Share something in Google+. Include the new Circle as a recipient, and select the "Also email ..." option to target the Mail-to-Blogger address.
  5. Done. Enjoy the convenience.

As people discuss the perceived and real dangers of integrating Google+ too transparently, we'll explore whether setting up a new Blogger account, to isolate Google+ activity, is a necessary precaution. We may also explore whether creating a new Circle is necessary.

You may want to select "Save emails as draft posts" in the MTB setup, and plan to edit each post, before publishing it. It you publish directly from the Google+ stream, your posts may be a bit cluttered looking. Look at my test blog post, if you wish.

It's also possible that the footer in the Google+ post may contain something like
You received this message because xxxxxxxxx shared it with ppppppppp.ssssssss@blogger.com.
where "ssssssss" will be the secret portion of your MTB email address. Publishing the post, with the footer included, could expose the MTB secret word. This would produce a new Mail-to-Blogger security vulnerability.

Would you know of any security discussions about people either forwarding their gmail address to their Mail2Blogger address or using their Mail2Blogger address when signing up for social sites? The end result is that all the email sent by the sites that were signed up ends up posted immediately to the Blogger blog. Google+ would do the same thing.

Tony,

Personally, I would do neither. Why would you do either?

So that's for getting the Google+ posts also on a blog, right?
Would you know of a way to get the opposite as well? Ie. get mails posted to Google+, maybe via some sort of blog?

Yes. I would like my blog posts to feed into the google plus account, just like Network Blogs does on Facebook. Thoughts?

Adding A Link To Your Blog Post

Occasionally, you see a very odd, cryptic complaint I just added a link in my blog, but the link vanished! No, it wasn't your imagination.

Embedded Comments And Main Page View

The option to display comments, embedded below the post, was made a blog option relatively recently. This was a long requested feature - and many bloggers added it to their blogs, as soon as the option was presented to us. Some blog owners like this feature so much, that they request it to be visible when the blog is opened, in main page view. I would like all comments, and the comment form, to be shown underneath the relevant post, automatically, for everyone to read without clicking on the number of comments link. And this is not how embedded comments work.

What's The URL Of My Blog?

We see the plea for help, periodically I need the URL of my blog, so I can give it to my friends. Help! Who's buried in Grant's Tomb, after all? No Chuck, be polite. OK, OK. The title of this blog is "The Real Blogger Status", and the title of this post is "What's The URL Of My Blog?".
