Optimising Your Blogger Blog

Periodically, we see queries about SEO, in Blogger Help Forum: How Do I?.
How do I optimise my blog?
The asker, in many cases, appears to think that there is an SEO kit available for Blogger blogs. This kit, if one should exist, is a "Do It Yourself" product - not available in stores.

If you publish a public Blogger blog (a blog with "Who can view this blog?" selected as "Anybody"), your goal is two fold:
If you look at the above as a recursive process, you'll see that "SEO" is a by product, not a key step, in publishing a public Blogger blog.
  1. You get more readers, by educating, entertaining, or instructing your existing readers.
  2. As you get more readers, and you get feedback from your readers, you become more aware of what interests your readers.
  3. Repeat #1.

You get new readers from the search engines, which index your blog. You get more new readers, when you consider an appropriate partnership relationship with the search engines.
  • You want new readers who are interested in what you have to say.
  • The search engines want to send you readers who are interested in what you have to say.

Neither you, nor the search engines, benefit in the long run from random, "SEO" generated traffic. This is similar to the problem with traffic from GPT / PTC / PTS based activity. Neither bogus search engine traffic, nor GPT / PTC / PTS based traffic, helps your Blogger blog, in the long run. Both you, and the search engines, benefit more when you focus on relevant traffic to your blog.

To the Chuckster~
My autoplay music works because it starts with a GREAT rendition of "Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out" sung by Carla Bruni (w/video). In fact, all my songs are great! I believe you would have to agree there. And--if not--turn it down.
I couldn't access my account because I had checked in perpetuity the box for "Stay signed in." (Check was removed, and I was back to normal.)
I'm from northern CA, too (Cottonwood, know it?. And you?

Margaret,

You do know that some of your readers may use their computer speakers, or headphones, to listen to music as they surf the web, in general? Other readers may surf to your blog in a shared environment, like an Internet cafe or library?

However cool, or relevant to the blog theme, music should be optional.

What's The URL Of My Blog?

We see the plea for help, periodically I need the URL of my blog, so I can give it to my friends. Help! Who's buried in Grant's Tomb, after all? No Chuck, be polite. OK, OK. The title of this blog is "The Real Blogger Status", and the title of this post is "What's The URL Of My Blog?".

Add A Custom Redirect, If You Change A Post URL

When you rename a blog, the most that you can do, to keep the old URL useful, is to setup a stub post , with a clickable link to the new URL. Yo! The blog is now at xxxxxxx.blogspot.com!! Blogger forbids gateway blogs, and similar blog to blog redirections . When you rename a post, you can setup a custom redirect - and automatically redirect your readers to the post, under its new URL. You should take advantage of this option, if you change a post URL.

Adding A Link To Your Blog Post

Occasionally, you see a very odd, cryptic complaint I just added a link in my blog, but the link vanished! No, it wasn't your imagination.
