FTP Publishing - April 2009

This week, we are seeing the return of the well known FTP Publishing symptom
Publishing your blog is taking longer than expected. To continue waiting for it to finish, click here.

There are numerous threads in Blogger Help Group, including one rather long and multiposted thread in Publishing Trouble, "FTP Publishing not working.".

If you are suffering from this problem, please provide diagnostic information
  • The blog BlogSpot URL (if applicable).
  • The blog domain URL.
  • The name of the server hosting company.
  • The Blogger FTP server setting value.
as part of your problem report, in BHG: Publishing Trouble.

(Update 11:30): Blogger Support has fixed the problem
This has been fixed.

(Update 10:30): Blogger Support has acknowleged the problem
We're looking into this now and will post an update once we have more info.

It seems to be working now. At least it did for me for the first time today.

It seems to be "unfixed" again. (grrrr!)

Tim,

If it is still unfixed, you need to make a new thread in GBH: Something Is Broken, and include details as suggested above.

Still not working for me.

Still having problems, but mostly related to images. When I use the image uploader in Blogger it manages to upload the image to my FTP server but doesn't insert the HTML reference code into my post (it gives me the error: "Your file upload is taking longer than expected. To continue waiting for it to finish")

It is now April 18th and uploading images by FTP still does not complete. The images are successfully loaded into my host site. But they do not appear in my blog entry for editing as the uploading never finishes.

Uploading a trivial text blog entry never completes as well although the text entry appears in the blog. I have reported this under publishing problems. This day three of the problem for me.

It appears this problem has reared its ugly head again. It is August 13th, 2009 and I have not been able to publish images to my FTP for 2 days. For two days prior it worked, but only after several attempts. Days prior to that it worked perfectly fine. My FTP server is fine, and other elements (not images) of the blog seem to upload just fine, except sometimes it looks like it doesn't complete but does, so it seems to be an image specific issue.

What's The URL Of My Blog?

We see the plea for help, periodically I need the URL of my blog, so I can give it to my friends. Help! Who's buried in Grant's Tomb, after all? No Chuck, be polite. OK, OK. The title of this blog is "The Real Blogger Status", and the title of this post is "What's The URL Of My Blog?".

Add A Custom Redirect, If You Change A Post URL

When you rename a blog, the most that you can do, to keep the old URL useful, is to setup a stub post , with a clickable link to the new URL. Yo! The blog is now at xxxxxxx.blogspot.com!! Blogger forbids gateway blogs, and similar blog to blog redirections . When you rename a post, you can setup a custom redirect - and automatically redirect your readers to the post, under its new URL. You should take advantage of this option, if you change a post URL.

Adding A Link To Your Blog Post

Occasionally, you see a very odd, cryptic complaint I just added a link in my blog, but the link vanished! No, it wasn't your imagination.
