Adding A Link To Your Blog Post

Occasionally, you see a very odd, cryptic complaint
I just added a link in my blog, but the link vanished!

No, it wasn't your imagination.

With some web sites, you

  1. Decide where to put a link, and position the cursor there.
  2. Hit the Insert Link button.
  3. Paste or type the Caption (visible text).
  4. Paste or type the Target (non visible URL).
  5. The editor adds the link to the caption, and adds both to the article, where you had positioned the cursor.

With Blogger, and a few other web sites, the procedure is ever so slightly different. You

  1. Paste or type the Caption, as you compose the text of the article, in the body of the post (or the page).
  2. Decide where to put the link, and highlight the link Caption, in the body of the post (or the page).
  3. Hit the Insert Link button.
  4. Paste or type the target URL. Be careful, and get the syntax absolutely right.
  5. The editor adds the link around the highlighted text, and to the article.

Please note that I edit my posts in HTML mode. Be kind, when reading my tutorial, below. Switching between Compose and HTML mode is not always easy.

"Compose" or "HTML" - the process is basically the same.

  1. Compose the text - including the link caption.
  2. Highlight the link caption.
  3. Click "Add link".
  4. Paste or type the URL of the link target.
  5. Click "OK".
  6. Get to work on the rest of the post.

This post, in need of a new link to another post.

This post, being edited.

Highlight the link caption.

Hit the "Add link" button.

Paste or type the link target URL, and click "OK".

Here is the updated code.

This is yet another feature that makes Blogger different from a few other web sites. And having been through the above, you may find Blogger Help: How do I make a link to another webpage? to be useful.

Please note that all of this advice is most useful, with link colours and text colours carefully chosen, in combination.

Dear Blogger, i found this article useful and yes Blogger is the best blogging platform for me. The question is, how to make a link and opened in the window? Thanks.

Robin,

You'll find a few examples on link coding techniques, here.

Wow, this site is extremely helpful. I am an about-to-be-published cookbook author and my publisher is having me set up a blog, I have no idea what I'm doing! With your help I should be able to make this work, Thank you!
This thread is REALLY old but I am hoping you are still there and can help me. I use Safari and I cannot "paste" a link. I do all the right things, type the word in the body of the post, high light it and then click on link, right click to add the URL and there is nothing to allow me to "paste". I can do this on Firefox, but that has another issue! Sigh. Thanks

Shari,

This is an excellent subject for a new discussion in Blogger Help Forum: Something Is Broken.

Embedded Comments And Main Page View

The option to display comments, embedded below the post, was made a blog option relatively recently. This was a long requested feature - and many bloggers added it to their blogs, as soon as the option was presented to us. Some blog owners like this feature so much, that they request it to be visible when the blog is opened, in main page view. I would like all comments, and the comment form, to be shown underneath the relevant post, automatically, for everyone to read without clicking on the number of comments link. And this is not how embedded comments work.

What's The URL Of My Blog?

We see the plea for help, periodically I need the URL of my blog, so I can give it to my friends. Help! Who's buried in Grant's Tomb, after all? No Chuck, be polite. OK, OK. The title of this blog is "The Real Blogger Status", and the title of this post is "What's The URL Of My Blog?".
