What FTP Is - And What It Isn't

We see this query in the forums almost weekly
I need the address for the Blogger FTP server.
or
How do I FTP my updates?
or
Why do I get nothing but FTPConnectionClosed when publishing?

Coming from a normal web site publishing environment, you're used to composing your web site offline, then publishing the web site by sending the updates, using FTP, to the host server for the web site. That's similar to what you do with a Blogger blog, but with one major exception.

When you use FTP to publish a blog, Blogger is the FTP client. There is no Blogger FTP server. You still use the plain old Blogger Post Editor (with one rare alternative) to compose the posts. FTP Publishing under Blogger simply lets you publish the blog, instead of to BlogSpot, to a third party provided host server, outside the BlogSpot name and physical space.

(Update 2010/03): And now, even FTP Publishing is no more.

O.k. so if a website like jalbum has the ability to help you post albums to your website but they ask you for FTP server information........does all the stuff you just said mean that it can't be done or that I'd have to ask Blogger for that info...?

Blogger does not provide an FTP server, to permit you to transfer files to Blogger hosting. If jalbum publishes using FTP, then you can't publish from jalbum to Blogger.

Jump Break Is Visible Only In An Index Page

Some blog owners are unsure what a Jump Break looks like, when applied to their blogs. Occasionally, in Blogger Help Forum: Get Help with an Issue , we see the confusion. Where's the Jump Break? or I added a Jump Break to several posts, but it never shows up! When asked for a screen print of what they're seeing, they may provide a image of the post, in the Post Editor Preview window - or possibly, the published post, but in post page view.
