New Blogger GUI 2011 Progress: It's Now A Production Blogger Option

Last month, Blogger released the initial access to their new (2011) GUI, as a part of Draft Blogger. Today, it was released as an option in Production Blogger.
As you may have heard, things are starting to look a little different across many Google products—and today, Blogger is the next product to get a makeover.
Right now, we can switch between the Classic GUI and the New GUI in Production Blogger, with just a couple mouse clicks. For many, the ability to move back, when required, is the most important part of the initial move forward. Very few military officers will plan an all out assault on the enemy's positions, without some reconnaissance, first.

You start out from the familiar Classic Blogger "Dashboard" - with the advice "The old Blogger interface will be removed in the coming months. Upgrade Now.". Just click on the "Upgrade Now" link.
And, there it is! This display, which we may think of as the "Dashboard" (see the list of blogs, and below, the Reading List?) is now called the "Blog List". For each blog in the blog list, you'll find an array of buttons and links, and a pull down menu (left of "View blog") with more options.
If you want to go back to the Classic interface, just click on the gear icon, in the upper right corner of almost every display, and select "Old Blogger interface".
And now, you're back. Not too terrifying, getting in and out quickly.
On almost every New GUI display, you'll see a "gear" icon in the upper right corner. Clicking on the gear, you'll see a pull down menu, with "Send feedback" and "Old Blogger interface" as menu entries.

So there you have your first glimpse. In between the first and last photos, you'll find an infinity of details. You may - or may not - find the features that you consider necessary.

You will want to observe two caveats, as you check out the new GUI.
  1. This is the first major change to Blogger, released since their new browser support policy. You'll want to upgrade your browser, if advised to do that.
  2. You may need to check your cookie filters, to ensure this version of Blogger operates successfully on your computer.

Wonderful...I just tried this out and I'm told "Your browser is no longer supported by Blogger." But I checked this, and thought I had the latest version of IE! And I do...for Windows XP. To use IE 9 or higher, I need to upgrade to Windows 7. Which I can't run on this PC without a major hardware upgrade. So all I have to do is buy a new computer with the latest version of Windows, and I should be OK to run the new Blogger interface. Blah.

Thanks for the info. I'd happily use the first version except there doesn't seem to be any option for the Amazon widget..?

I like the new interface but I can't figure out how to get to The Coffee Shop so I switched back to the old interface. Where is the link to the forums in the new interface??

Vee,

Find the gear icon in the upper right. The "Blogger help" link takes you to the "Blogger Help" index article, with the "Help forum" link in the left sidebar. And, you're there.

Ladesman,

Hmm.

Sounds like an item for "Send feedback" behind the gear icon.

Oh yeah, that worked! Nice one, Chuck, thanks!

I use Vista and I tried the new UI and I really hate it. I switched back within 15 minutes. It wasn't broken and didn't need to be fixed. When I can't access and get a complete list of the many blogs I follow, I get angry and right now that's what I am. "User Friendly" appears to have left the building.
Hi Chuck .. I'm late I know! Thanks for the info .. I hit the you're following too many blogs - 300 .. and it wouldn't let me add ..

I did give feedback - but that went wrong .. oh well! Cheers for now .. Hilary

Adding A Link To Your Blog Post

Occasionally, you see a very odd, cryptic complaint I just added a link in my blog, but the link vanished! No, it wasn't your imagination.

Embedded Comments And Main Page View

The option to display comments, embedded below the post, was made a blog option relatively recently. This was a long requested feature - and many bloggers added it to their blogs, as soon as the option was presented to us. Some blog owners like this feature so much, that they request it to be visible when the blog is opened, in main page view. I would like all comments, and the comment form, to be shown underneath the relevant post, automatically, for everyone to read without clicking on the number of comments link. And this is not how embedded comments work.

What's The URL Of My Blog?

We see the plea for help, periodically I need the URL of my blog, so I can give it to my friends. Help! Who's buried in Grant's Tomb, after all? No Chuck, be polite. OK, OK. The title of this blog is "The Real Blogger Status", and the title of this post is "What's The URL Of My Blog?".
